Monkey Cupcakes!!

Heidi had to make a fieldguide for her language arts class. That means she had to write a paper that told in detail how to do something. She wanted to make these monkey cupcakes. She had to have pictures and very detailed steps showing how to do them. I think they turned out pretty cute when she was all done. Unfortunately it was during the time she had her very bad allergies and so her eyes are all pretty puffy. She is doing much better now that we have her all drugged up.

Spring Break!!! Musical Camp and Sports Camp

This year we did something totally different for our family. We put all the kids in some sort of camp. It started out with trying to find some sort of acting group for Meagan when I stumbled upon Starlight Mountain Theaters Spring Break Camp. They were doing High School Musical 2 and I knew she would love it. The other girls all wanted to do it too. It ran from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm for Meagan and Heidi and 9am to 12pm for Emma. Then they were to perform it on Saturday. I knew the girls would love this but didn't think Eric would. I also didn't want Eric home everyday just playing Wii all day while his sisters were away. We received a notice that there was a sports camp at the YMCA and thought that might be good for Eric so we signed him up.

Eric loved going everyday and playing all types of sports; basketball, dodgeball, swimming, rock climbing etc. One day they had to walk to the YMCA from the school that they were at and it started hailing. When David picked him up that day he said it wasn't very fun walking because icicles kept hitting him on the head. He also made his first basket ever and was so proud. I just happened to be there when he did and was probably just as proud.

The girls were taught some choreography and sang the songs from the musical. Meagan tried out for a part and got the part of Taylor Mckessie. She loved being in the foreground for most of the production. We got a little glimpse of what it might be like if she ever gets a boyfriend. Her stage boyfriend "Chad" liked to act and was quite convincing that they were boyfriend and girlfriend in the musical. Heidi loved learning the dance moves and being a part of it but Emma was a little disappointed that she wasn't one of the main characters. Remember she doesn't think she is only 9 and couldn't understand why she couldn't play a teenager!!!! She still had a blast and they all want to do it again next year. I told them to save their money to help pay for it and they can. They are already on their way to saving!!!

Young Women Broadcast

We have a tradition in our family that when you turn 12 you get to go with mom to Utah and go to the Young Women Broadcast in the conference center. I asked our neighbors the Biberstons if they wanted to go with us since their daughter Jaden turned 12 in November and they thought that would be fun. In January I started to try and get tickets. This was not easy. Last time when I went with Meagan I just called Salt Lake and got them. No problems. This time I couldn't find the number so I called our bishop who told me to ask our YW president who sent me to the Stake YW president who gave me the number to call Salt Lake. I called the number and they asked if I was the Stake President and I said no. She told me that only the Stake President could get tickets. I then called our Stake President and asked him if he could get me tickets. He said he had never heard of that before but would try. I gave him the number I had been given and he called the next day to tell me they were on their way. I waited and waited and just when I was about to cal him again, one of his clerks called and said they had tickets for me. I was so happy!!! We got the tickets and found out they were on the ground floor but all the way to the side. (When looking at the stage we were on the left side) I talked to my friend to discuss when we would drive down together when she told me that she was going to take the whole family down since it was during Spring Break. Heidi and I were disappointed but decided we could have fun in the car with just the 2 of us. We left Friday morning and got to Bountiful in the afternoon. We sang to tons of songs on the radio and she listened to her new ipod. Friday night we went out to dinner with her Aunt Alicia, Uncle Ben, Kaden, and her Aunt Tino. We went to a Mexican place and then Aunt Tino went with us bowling. We were the worst bowlers in history (Heidi's highest score was a 39!!!) but we had a ton of fun. The next morning we slept in then went to McDonalds for breakfast and then did a little shopping. We went back to grandma and grandpa's house and changed so we could meet our friends for a late lunch, early dinner. Then we got to the Conference Center. They told us we could get in any line so we picked one with only 5 people in front of us. When we got into the Conference Center the girls went to the bathroom and went looking for our seats. The Conference center doesn't assign seats, just sections. I went to our section and went to the front row. While I was checking out which row I thought would be the best, one of the ushers asked what I was doing and I told her, I was trying to find the best seat. She asked if I would like to change sections and I told her my seat wasn't in a different section. She said that was ok and led me down to a new section. I then talked to the next usher and asked her about all the flowers in the conference center. Iasked if they were real or fake and she said they were probably fake. Then she asked me if I wanted her to go and find out. I said that would be great!! She did and came back to tell me all the flowers were real and that the tulips were all in little pots and that the greenery was in some kind of water trough. She then asked us if we wanted to move down a few more rows. We said, Yes!!! She moved the rope and we were in the 6th row on the side that the Prophet sits. They were amazing seats!!!! The conference was absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!! Heidi and I both enjoyed it and then when it was over we drove to Aunt Renee's house. We just visited but Heidi loved trying on all of Aunt Renee's very high heels. Don't her legs look great? Unfortunately for her, her mother will never let her wear shoes that high until she leaves home!!!!!! We got up early Sunday morning (5:30am) so we could make it back for church. Heidi really wanted to go to her first YW Sunday meeting in our ward. It was a fabulous weekend with Heidi and one that I won't forget. I hope she doesn't either.

Happy Birthday Heidi!!!! She turned 12!!

Heidi turned 12 this year on her birthday. Her friend Jaden Biberston came to me at the beginning of March and asked if she could throw Heidi a surprise birthday party. I love throwing parties and didn't want to turn the whole thing over to Jaden so I said we could do it together. I had her make the invitations and deliver them Heidi's friends at school. We looked at the calendar and found that Heidi didn't have a volleyball tournament on March 13th and thought that would be the best day to surprise her since it is a few weeks before her birhtday on the 25th. We decided to do a scavenger hunt at the mall. I went a few days earlier in the week and came up with some questions and activities for them to do. Then I told Heidi and her sisters that we would be going to the mall on Saturday to look for Easter dresses. It was the perfect excuse to get Heidi to the mall. David came later with her friends and we met up in the food court. I started to walking towards her friends and some balloons and Heidi couldn't quite figure out why I wanted to go where someone was having a party. She eventually figured out that her friends were there and she was quite surprised. One friend did sort of spoil the surprise by telling her she couldn't go to her party and Heidi didn't know what she was talking about. The girls were all given some money to get a gumball, a massage in the massage chair, something from Bath and Body Works, a snack, and get their pictures taken with Heidi in a photobooth. I figured that would be the easiest way for her to have memories of her friends at her party since I didn't want to walk around the mall with her and take pictures. Then she came back to the food court to open presents and have strawberry shortcake. It was a very fun surprise for her. Unfortunately her real birthday fell on the last day of school before Spring Break and on a Thrusday which is the busiest day of the week for after school activities. She didn't get to open presents or do anything fun until 8:30 pm. I felt bad but I didn't know what else to do. Dad brought her home an ice cream cake and a few friends came over for a late night. So even though it started out not fun I think it ended happily. She got some new nail polish stuff and a new orange ipod. She is now 12 and in our family that means you get to shave your legs. She got a new razor and some shave gel. She was so excited to shave her legs the next day. Emma and Eric wanted to watch also but Heidi didn't want to let them. Emma wanted to know when she can shave and I told her when she turns 12. She asked what would happen if she used Heidi's stuff before she turned 12 and I told her she would add an extra year to when she would get to shave if she touched Heidi's stuff. I hope she doesn't get too anxious but I am sure she will try to shave before she is 12.
